Pictured above (from right to left), the cherimoya (mảng cầu), papaya (đu đủ), and mango (xoài) traditionally help bring in the new year. The fruits' names in Vietnamese sound similar to the phrase "cầu đủ xài," which translates to "prayers for enough to spend," and are arranged and displayed in hopes of having just enough to get through the year. Lions, like the one pictured above, are said to help scare away evil spirits during the traditional lion dance, or múa lân.
