Remember That You Are Loved

You may not hear it often enough, but it’s nice to know that you are appreciated, to know that someone looks forward to seeing you because you make them feel special. Tyneisha Smith’s poem to her nail techs, from my post last week, reminds me of a few things that I want to share with you.

You take care of others. The simple warmth of your touch through a hand or foot massage can melt away someone’s heartache and stress. For the short time someone is sitting with you, you are the one that can change the fate of that person’s day, turning what was once a terrible morning into a chance for her to realize that the day isn’t so bad. She can leave your salon with her head up, looking down only to admire her amazing new nails.

At the very least, you help your clients feel beautiful. For every laugh or smile you share with your client in the salon and for every infectious smile that they receive in compliment of their nails is a smile that you helped create. And nothing (other than her shiny new set of nails) is more beautiful than a smile.

You are a friend and confidante. It’s surprising that you aren’t paid more, because therapy sessions can be expensive, and that’s what you sometimes must do — help your clients sort out their problems as they confide in you about their lives.

Your clients need you. They come to you simply for the reason to have their nails done, but you ultimately help them with so much more than that. You’re helping brides-to-be prepare for their big wedding day, you’re creating quality time for mothers, daughters, and friends, and you’re offering your sanctuary of a salon to busy moms and businesswomen alike. (If these aren’t the kind of clients you’re getting, maybe it’s time for a change. Check out this story to take the necessary steps to attract your ideal client while turning your current clients into your ideal clients.)

You make a difference in the lives of others. They’re in your hands. And although they may not always show it, I hope you know that you are loved.
